Eating out with kids can be difficult, but restaurants designed for the challenge ease the burden. Dig in: Readers sent along their favorite family-friendly spots for dining out — places with built-in activities for kids, where parents can enjoy themselves, too.
State of play: Panama 66, in the sculpture court at the San Diego Museum of Art in Balboa Park, is our usual top pick.
• The food is top notch, there's live music most nights, kids can play without disturbing anyone in the sculpture court lawn, and parents can enjoy a real drink selection surrounded by fine art.
• The Loma Club is another winner: Two mini-golf courses surround a stage for live music, casual picnic tables and a bar menu with kid favorites.
Some other great spots to bring the kids, according to our readers:
• Park 101 Carlsbad is a multilevel barbecue restaurant in the heart of Carlsbad Village.
• Pizza Nova in Point Loma offers waterfront views, a kid-friendly menu and a post-meal walk around the bay.
• Novo Brazil's new Mission Valley brewpub has a giant footprint, including a playground and a kid-friendly menu.
• Grand Ole BBQ in Flinn Springs boasts a giant yard with games and live music, and it makes a great destination (the North Park location is smaller, but still a winner, too).
• The Hills in La Mesa has a game room and dog-friendly patio.
• Farmer & the Seahorse is a large indoor/outdoor Torrey Pines restaurant with a lawn for kids to run, tractors for them to climb on and good farm-to-table food.
