San Diego pays $3.9 million to settle La Jolla sinkhole lawsuit, bringing total payout to $13.92 million
The city of San Diego agreed to pay $3.925 million to settle the remaining lawsuits over La Jolla sinkhole. The San Diego City Council has agreed to pay $3.925 million to nine La Jolla condominium owners who were severely damaged by a sinkhole in March 2023. This brings the city's total settlements in the case to nearly $14 million. The final payout comes more than three years after a stormwater drainpipe failed near a condo complex. The sinkhole caused several buildings to shift, cracking foundations, dislodging doors and windows, and forcing residents to evacuate. The settlement ends all litigation.
