Marcus 'MJ' Danies, a 21-year-old defensive back for the Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles, has died after being killed in a shooting at an apartment complex in Hattiesburg. Danies was set to start as a starting cornerback in 2023, but had been moved to the safety position for the 2024 season. His body was sent to a medical examiner for an autopsy. Daniels' body was sent to a medical examiner to undergo an autopsy, Forrest County Coroner Lisa Klem told reporters while addressing the incident on Wednesday (June 12). The 21-year-old was the Golden Eagles' starting cornerback in 2023, recording a team-best three interceptions, as well as 29 tackles in 12 games, but was moved to and projected to start at the safety position ahead of the 2024 season, the Hattiesburg American reported.
