Camille Ashton Joins San Diego Wave FC As Sporting Director & General Manager

Ashton, who previously played in the NWSL with Sky Blue FC, the Orlando Pride, and the Houston Dash, will continue to scout and recruit players while managing the coaching staff and players. She is now the second General Manager in the Wave's club history, following Molly Downtain's departure in April 2024. The Wave currently holds a No. 9 rank in the NFLSL standings and has added several key international players to their roster this season.

Three weeks after resigning from the Kansas City Current as the General Manager, Camille Ashton has been appointed as the Sporting Director and General Manager of San Diego Wave FC, the club announced today.
"I am honored to join San Diego Wave FC and excited to contribute to the club’s success,” said Ashton in a statement. “This is a club with a clear vision for success and a commitment to excellence. I look forward to working closely with Jill, Casey, the coaching staff, support staff, players, ownership and front office to help this club win more trophies and make a lasting impact in this city. Being a part of the Wave and the vibrant city of San Diego, with its passionate fan base, is truly special.”
In her previous role with the Current, Ashton was the General Manager since January 2022 and in her first year on the job, the club went on to compete in the 2022 NWSL Championship.
In the NWSL offseason, Ashton played a key role in recruiting international players such as Debinha, Temwa Chawinga, and Bia Zaneratto for the Current, who remain unbeaten 12 games into the 2024 NWSL regular season.

Ashton previously played in the NWSL with Sky Blue FC (now known as Gotham FC), the Orlando Pride, and the Houston Dash from 2014-2017.
The former NWSL player also grew up in Irvine, California and previously played overseas with Vålerenga in Norway until she retired in 2018. In her new role with the Wave, Ashton will continue to scout and recruit players while managing the coaching staff and players.
The Wave currently hold a No. 9 rank in the NWSL standings and this season, they’ve added several key international players to their roster such as defender Hanna Lundkvist, Mya Jones, and most recently, María Sánchez.
As the Wave continue to find their rhythm following a successful season as the 2023 NWSL Shield Winners, Ashton will work closely alongside Wave FC Head Coach Casey Stoney.
“The Wave stands for excellence and this organization wants to be a winning organization and recognized for that not just in the NWSL and in the U.S., but globally and also do things the right way and that’s something that’s really important and aligns with me,” said Ashton.
“The club wants to be a place where players want to come and where players want to stay and I think that’s about the environment that’s built here,” added Ashton. The club has had a lot of success in a really short amount of time and it really is incredible and speaks to the leadership and everyone in the organization. So, I’m just excited to contribute to that in any way I can.”
At the start of the 2024 regular season, the Wave defeated former NWSL Champions, Gotham FC to win the NWSL Challenge Cup and look to their current 3-4-4 (wins, losses, draws) record.
Ashton is now the second General Manager in the Wave’s club history as Molly Downtain spent three years with the Wave as the General Manager and built the roster to win the NWSL Shield in the Wave’s second second. Downtain resigned from her role with the club in April 2024.
