In a recent development, a police officer from San Diego resigned from his position after finding himself in a compromising situation. Officer Anthony Hair exited the department after footage from a body camera revealed him locked in the backseat of his patrol car with a woman under arrest who allegedly offered him sexual favors in August 2023, as the video showed.
Hair terminated his employment approximately one month after an inquiry began concerning the incident and shortly before his second interview with the investigative team was scheduled, as reported by CBS 8.
The officer, with two years of service with the SDPD, was involved in this incident after apprehending the woman on suspicion of auto theft near a convenience store.
The unnamed woman being held was suspected of car theft and also had an active bench warrant.
Hair’s duty was to take her to the police department for processing and subsequently to Las Colinas Detention Center in Santee, California, for further questioning.
The bodycam footage released by the SDPD records the woman propositioning Hair for sex after inquiring about his marital status.
“You’re not too bad. What’s it gonna hurt me if I work the system, you know what I mean? That’s the way I see s–t,” she stated. “Are you single?” she continued, to which Hair affirmed but noted that she was not.
“I’m down to f–k right now,” the woman declared before Hair cautioned her, “Don’t say that right now…Don’t say that right now because everything is being recorded right now.”
As they neared the detention facility, the video caught Hair asking the woman about her movements in the backseat.
He deactivated his body camera and slowed his car as he entered a residential street, according to the report.
Twenty minutes later, Hair found himself needing assistance to exit the patrol car, resulting in an unwelcome and awkward call for aid from a colleague.
According to an officer’s account, Hair appeared flustered and asked for help, requesting the other officer’s presence without disclosing the reason until they met. He admitted to being “really embarrassed.”
Hair suggested that his motive for being in the backseat was concern for the woman’s health, as she may have been experiencing a medical emergency, per NBC San Diego.
Both Hair and the detained woman have disclaimed any inappropriate behavior. Hair claimed that he was only attempting to check on the detainee when he accidentally became locked in.
Evidence later found on Hair’s belt hinted at the possibility of sexual activity, CBS reported.
The woman indicated that Hair suggested continuing their interaction after her legal matters were resolved.
Currently, it remains uncertain whether Hair will face any legal repercussions for the events that transpired.
The Post is pursuing comments from the San Diego Police Department on the matter.
