Pac-12 (2.0) power rankings: Gonzaga, San Diego State on top as conference play begins
Here’s our weekly assessment of a conference that doesn’t exist (yet) using results, analytics and a dash of common sense. Gonzaga and San Diego State are the top two teams in the Pac-12, with Gonzaga currently eighth in the adjusted defensive efficiency rankings according to KenPom. The rankings also reflect the difficulty of reaching the NCAA Tournament without winning the Mountain West tournament or defeating Utah State. The Aggies are currently 13-1 overall and 4-0 in conference when they visit Boise State on Jan. 10, and a victory over the Broncos would put them on track for a 19-1 mark. Meanwhile, the Rams' defense is ranked 225th nationally in adjusted efficiency, and they need to tighten it if they plan to contend for the Mountain Western title.
