Trump Wants Data Centers on Federal Property Like NAVWAR Site

Despite a proposed ban in the works, San Diego City Hall would be near powerless to stop it. The San Diego City Council is set to vote on a temporary ban on large data centers on federal property. The vote would put an emergency ordinance into place and temporarily halt all pending applications for data centers for 45 days, allowing the city time to come up with regulations for how data centers might fit within city zoning. However, even if the ban passes, there is little chance to stop data centers from being built on federal land like NAVWAR Site. This comes after President Donald Trump ordered the Secretary of Defense to identify sites on military installations that could house data centers. The National Environmental Policy Act, or NEPA, excludes data centers funded with mostly private dollars from environmental review under the private sector. Critics argue that the Trump Administration's interpretation of NEPA is too narrow.
